Hey dudes, I want to make it VERY CLEAR that when exploring Maui, or anywhere for that matter, you need to ALWAYS respect the land/environment/communities you're visiting. It's everyone's duty to leave these places better than when you found them.

Whats up Noah! Just found your channel and your intro video with 'introduce yourself in the comments!' Well, I'm The Traveling Barber, Aka, James! I just started the Youtube journey with vlogs and something… a little different! Check it out if you want!
Anyway, Can't wait to get stuck in and see some of your content, and who knows… Maybe bump into you whilst traveling the globe!

I live near Seattle and I am always disgusted when I visit state parks and see plastic all over the beaches. Please reduce use of plastics. Keep your trash with YOU!! In 2050 we are going to have more plastic than fish in our oceans.

There are countless pronunciation tips in the comments, but just some general tips to help:
[1]-All Ws are pronounced as Vs. (W=/=wuh, W=vuh)
[2]-There are no repeated letters. So Hawaii is actually Hawai'i. The ( ' ) is called an 'Okina. It's used as an accent, but any other native speaker will tell you that it's addressed as a letter in and of itself.
[3]-Another thing about Ws, when they're used, it can change the sound of a letter without the use of an 'okina. So like, "Wi"=vee, "We"=veh, and I would say "Wa"=vah, but As are almost always pronounced like "Ah." The same thing applies for Hs, Ns, and Ls. Maybe a little more, but those are the common letters.
[4]-Similarly, though there wasn't a problem with it in the vid from what I can tell, when an "i" is placed after a vowel, it changes as well, but that one's much easier to grasp. "Ai"=aye, "Ei" = (usually) ey, "Oi" = oy (like oyster). It's easy until you get to the Es lmao.
[5]-You encounter it less, but an E placed after a vowel will change it as well. "Oe"=oy, "Ae"=(usually) aye, and "Ei" = eh. Not as bad as a U placed ANYWHERE, but that's more simple tbh. "Ua"=ooh-ah, "Au"=ow, "Ui"=oo-ee (iu is very rare), and "Ou"=oh but with a slight W sound at the end, "ohw." Basically, be scared of vowels. ["Oa"=oh-uh, "Ao"=ow]
[6]-Can't remember what it's called, but there's also that little line above some letters. Specifically Ā, Ē, Ī, Ō, and Ū. It's pronounced in a more drawn out way. For example, Ū would become ooh. Not sure if that translates over text, so just pronounce the letter U, but don't make the yuh sound at the beginning. Ē = ey/ay, Ī = ee, Ō = oh~ (like you're pronouncing the letter, just drawn out), and Ā = ah.
[7]-Last thing, when speaking ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (the Hawaiian language), try slightly exaggerate the vowels, they're supposed to have a bit more power behind them. Except when there's an "i" afterward. Take the "aye" sound as a singular thing.
[8]-Also, little tid bit, when pronouncing things like "Ho" or "Au," really speak from the chest to get some bass behind it.
So for practice, Hawai'i, is pronounced Ha-vai-ee. (Though on that note, "Ha" is a very special sound for us. It means many things, but most prominently, the breath of life. So it's pronounced almost like it's got an H at the end, sort of wispy, if that makes sense.) Waihee = Waihe'e, pronounced Vai-hey-ay. Iao = Ee-ow. And my favorite one is my name, which no one gets right, but I can't really blame them lol, Ha'ili moe = Hah-ee-lee-moy. Once you can successfully pronounce "Ke’alakupaoaikawelo" you're all set.
Even if I stumbled upon this SUPER late, and there's a ton of Hawai'i vids, I still like sharing my culture where I can. Plus Youtube recommendations are funny sometimes. Anyway, I hope your memories are fond. Aloha ke Akua pu a hui hou kakou.

Maui is so beautiful, fun and relaxing. Definitely get a car!!!! Also do your research on the roads. We hired a driver to get us through the sketchy route. And honestly one of the most beautiful part.
