Have you learnt the that means of the saying, ‘Pa’lante, como los de Alicante’? In case you’re from the English-speaking world, then possibly not. However it is best to! It means ‘Ahead, just like the individuals of Alicante’. In Spain, this well-liked saying defines the individuals of Alicante by their drive, willpower and spirit. Traditionally, this port metropolis on the Costa Blanca has confronted many struggles – be they on account of battle or financial troubles – however the individuals of Alicante have persevered, with their heads held excessive, and pressed ahead.

The late 1950s and 60s had been a transformative time for the town. The expansion of worldwide tourism drove holidaymakers to places like Alicante, which loved stunning climates year-round. The native financial system benefited vastly from well-funded building tasks comparable to accommodations and complexes that accompanied this enhance in tourism, and in flip, the additional guests drove a rise within the variety of fantastic eating places, bars and cafés Alicante has to supply.

On the coronary heart of Alicante is an power – a tradition and identification that has persevered by means of the expansion of the tourism right here. The idyllic and instagrammable paved streets of the Barrio de Santa Cruz lead you on a path across the mountain on the centre of the town, Monte Benacantil, and the traditional partitions of the Castillo de Santa Barbara on its peak. The citadel is seen from in all places within the metropolis, whether or not you’re absorbing some solar on the seashore, or purchasing for contemporary native produce in Alicante’s Mercado Central.

With neighbors just like the notorious Benidorm, I had a couple of assumptions in regards to the nature of tourism within the metropolis, and I couldn’t have been extra flawed. The true, genuine Alicante is right here and ready for you, and I might really feel it from the second we landed.

The town of Alicante is round 1,260 miles from London. To get there, we selected the way in which you’ll additionally most certainly be utilizing, which is to fly! We flew from Gatwick airport, so to begin our journey in type, we booked ourselves into the Number one Lounge. Limitless food and drinks was a pleasant option to benefit from the free WiFi, which was excellent for some additional last-minute analysis and filling our Netflix downloads for the airplane. In case you fancy beginning your vacation like a VIP, you need to use the Vacation Extras app to e-book yours.

Alicante has its personal airport, so getting in is simple. A flight from Gatwick to Alicante takes solely round 2.5 hours. Then, the airport is only a 20 minute drive away from the city centre. Our advice? Guide your self a non-public switch or taxi. The door to door service is probably the most hassle-free choice. Alternatively, you’ll be able to take the C6 bus from Alicante Airport into the town, which arrives each 20 minutes all through the daytime or as soon as an hour between midnight and 5am, and takes simply 20 minutes.

We wished to soak in as a lot of the Alicante expertise as we might, so we’re doing most of our exploring by foot. Most of the greatest sights in Alicante are all inside strolling distance of each other. We used Google Maps to plan our routes. Good in the event you’re planning on doing numerous strolling, however it’ll additionally present you your public transport choices too, so that you’ll know in the event you might save time by opting to catch a tram as a substitute.

Alicante is filled with power, so it’s no shock that this metropolis attracts occasion individuals, stag do’s and hen nights. But when you already know the place to look, it may also be serene, idyllic and a historical past lover’s paradise… if you already know the place to look.

So on our first morning in Alicante, we made our manner over to the Castillo de Santa Barbara to get the perfect views over Alicante. On our manner there, we handed the Playa del Postiguet, or Postiguet Seashore, and naturally, needed to cease to take pleasure in it.

One in every of Alicante’s hottest seashores, it’s solely a brief stroll from the city centre and is famend for the standard of the sand and lovely palm tree boardwalk.

Great video! Just one thing – I would love if you talked more about history at the start. Because you kept saying it is very historical, pointing out at historical cues but never explained what is the history behind all of them.

I'm planning a mini break over the Easter weekend (Apr 10 – Apr 13) and was wondering: where would be best in southern Spain for a relaxing time? We were thinking Malaga/Seville, but flights to Alicante are cheaper. What would you suggest? (By "you" I mean anyone who happens to be scrolling through the comments and finding this post!) 🙂
